1998 MEETING MINUTES
17 June 1998
11:30AM 1:30PM
San Diego, CA
Introduction: All attendees introduced themselves and signed-in. Chuck McGinley
recorded the following notes of the meeting.
Update of Guidance Document
update on flow rate study by Chuck McGinley:
Chuck McGinley reported that a preliminary review of data show that thresholds determined using a 20-lpm flow rate did not have a "statistically significant" difference from thresholds using a 10-lpm flow rate. The studys final report is planned to be presented at the proposed WEF Odor & VOC Specialty Conference in 2000.
Update of Sub-Committee efforts to contact EPA
update by Mike McGinley
Mike McGinley presented a summary of the EPA Sponsored "Health Effects of Odors" Workshop which was held at Duke University April 16-17, 1998. The workshops proceedings will most likely be available by late 1998. Contact Mike McGinley at 800-879-9231 or mcginley@fivesenses.com if you would like to receive information regarding the proceedings.
The WEF "Odor Committee" plan a specialty conference (Odors & VOCs) in 2000:
Note: In a WEF committee meeting conference call on July 16th Tom Mahin and Chuck McGinley volunteered to prepare the WEF specialty conference proposal. The proposal is due to WEF offices August 28, 1998. The proposal will be reviewed at the January 1999, WEF technical/executive committee meetings. Approval is believed to be forthcoming based on the past success of the Odor & VOC Specialty Conferences, i.e. Houston, 1997; Jacksonville, 1994. McGinley and Mahin will not be the technical chairs, however, they volunteered to work on the workshop and "round table session" planning. Possible locations for an April 2000 conference are Chicago, Baltimore, and Cleveland.
The WEF understands that a co-sponsorship with AWMA is not possible in the short term because of differences in the organizations. However, because nearly a majority of key committee members are on both "odor committees: the sharing of advertising, mailing lists, etc. may be possible." The overlap of subjects is greater then 50%: regulations, quantification, sampling, modeling, public relations, etc.
