2001 MEETING MINUTES
25 June 2001
11:30AM - 1:30PM
Orange County Convention Center - Room 309B
Orlando, Florida
The meeting opened at 11:30AM
Ron Poustchi (Chair) and Michael Lannan (Vice-Chair) were both absent from the meeting. Martha OBrien (Secretary) and Mike McGinley co-chaired the meeting.
A sign-in sheet was passed around the room. An attendance list is included with these minutes.
1. A&WMA and the Conference
A&WMA Representatives visited each of the committees. Stan Hayes (ENVIRON, Corp.) introduced himself as the new A&WMA Environmental Effects division chair.
He also discussed the 2002 technical program will be developed as it was for the 2000 & 2001 conference. This years conference had similar attendance to 2000, however, exhibitor involvement is decreased again. He also mentioned that again there will be a winter A&WMA conference where the topic will be energy. The winter conference will be held in April 2002 in San Francisco.
Another group of specialty conferences are trying to be planned for Jan/Feb 2002. A&WMA is promoting winter specialty conferences in order to bring in revenue at a down time of year.
The 2002 A&WMA Annual Meeting is in Baltimore.
The minutes from the 2000 Salt Lake City Annual Conference were reviewed. No additions, deletions, or errors were noted.
The committee spent the majority of the meeting discussing topics for next years meeting.
The 2001 Orlando odor sessions were well attended with a reported 25-35 attendees for all papers. This years odor sessions were: Applications of Modeling Techniques to Solve Odor Problems & Odor Analysis & Monitoring.
All other EE-6 members should contact Mike McGinley (mike@fivesenses.com) with speaker suggestions. The group decided we would aim for the following speakers: EPA representative (i.e. John Walker), 2-3 state representatives (examples: MN, NJ, CO, TX, MO, MD), 1-2 city representatives (examples: Bay Area, NYC, Des Moines), and one Canadian representative (i.e. Ontario Ministry of the Environment).
This session will include 10-15 minute presentations and a forum for open discussion. Further work will be done to focus this session as speakers are identified.
WEF is planning a 2002 specialty conference. It will be WEF Odors and Toxic Emissions 2002 to be held 28 April 1 May 2002 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The call for papers is available at www.wef.org.
A&WMA is providing some support for this conference and is technically a "co-sponsor", however, A&WMA representative, Denise Stotler, did not know what A&WMAs involvement included or if there was any revenue sharing.
The group discussed a 2003 A&WMA Odor Specialty Conference. No date or location has been set.
A&WMA representative, Denise Stotler, had not seen a specialty conference request submital from the EE-6 committee. She stated that Adrianne Carolla has also not seen a submital. Denise stated that 12 months is plenty of time for a conference to be planned.
Mike McGinley will check with Dick Pope about the status of this request for a 2003 odor conference.
Martha OBrien distributed a summary of the history and current status of the EE-6 Odor Sampling & Measurement Guideline Document. This document is available for download on the EE-6 web site.

Document Status Report June 2001 (guideline update 2001.doc - 25kb) |
Mike McGinley stated that the European Draft Odor Sampling and Analysis Standard prEN 13725 was released for comment in December 1999. The comment period closed at the end of January. Each country has reviewed comments submitted to their standards organization. The CEN delegates have met and reviewed the comments from each country. A final draft has been sent to all CEN countries for a final vote. It is expected that the standard will be approved as an official CEN standard in 2002.
This year the EE-6 committee officers are scheduled to rotate positions. Ron Poustchi has now fulfilled his duties in all three positions and steps down from the Chair position. Mike Lannan of CDM will now move to the Chair position. Martha OBrien moves to the Vice-Chair position. These officer positions rotate every three years.
Mike McGinley was nominated for the secretary position. Since there was only a small number of members in attendance, it was decided the committee would hold an e-mail vote in July or August.
The meeting adjourned at 1:40 PM.
Respectfully Submitted,
Michael McGinley
