2006 MEETING MINUTES

20 June 2006
11:30PM - 12:00PM
New Orleans Convention Center - Room 355
New Orleans, Louisiana

The meeting opened at 11:30AM

Due to the recent WEF/A&WMA Odor specialty conference in Hartford, CT in April, there was expected to be low attendance at the 2006 annual meeting. No formal agenda was prepared for the meeting.

A sign-in sheet was passed around the room. An attendance list is included with these minutes.

1. A&WMA and the Conference

Attendance for the conference was close to the attendance in Minneapolis in 2005 and Indianapolis in 2004. While it would traditionally be higher attendance in New Orleans, the events related to the hurricanes last fall did negatively influence the attendance at the conference.

A&WMA plans to keep the same submittal system for session proposals and abstract submittals. The call for papers will contain principal areas of interest by each committee. Once the abstracts have been reviewed, the committee will then work to develop sessions that coincide with these abstracts.

2. Session Proposals

The following Principal Area topics were submitted with the accompanying Principal Area Leads (PAL):

a. Odor Impacts from Animal/Agricultural Operations
PAL: Mike McGinley - St. Croix Sensory

b. Odor Modeling
PAL: Ray Porter - CH2M Hill

c. Odor Management at Industial, Manufacturing, and Solid Waste Processing Facilities
PAL: Martha O'Brien - Odor Science and Engineering

d. Issues in Sampling Odors and Chemical Odorants
PAL: Anna Bokowa - Canadian ORTECH Environmental

Mike McGinley submitted these topics for inclusion in the Annual Conference call for papers.

3. Report on the 2006 WEF Odor and VOC Specialty Conference

WEF had provided a report on the 2006 conference held 9-12 April 2006 in Hartford, CT.

There were 386 participants along with 41 exhibit booths at the conference. 74 people participated in the conference workshop, Innovations in Biotechnology to Control Odors and Air Emissions in Wastewater Collection Systems and Treatment Plants, on Sunday. The Technical program included over 60 paper presentations in 12 technical sessions. A conference proceedings was produced and is available through WEF.

The meeting adjourned at 12:00 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,
Michael McGinley
Committee Vice-Chair
