2007 MEETING MINUTES

The meeting opened at 11:30AM

Martha O'Brien (Chair), Michael McGinley (Vice-Chair), and Anna Bokowa (Secretary) were present for the meeting.
A sign-in sheet was passed around the room. An attendance list is included with these minutes.

1. Rotation of current officers

After this meeting, the current officers will rotate positions. After three years as Chair, Martha O'Brien relinquish her duties to Mike McGinley. Anna Bokowa will move from Secretary to Vice-Chair.

The audienence was asked for nominations or volunteers for the secretary position. Mr. Kamlesh Patel, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, volunteered to handle the secretary position. Other possible canidates were discussed, but no one present was interested in volunteering for the position. Unanymous vote approced Mr. Patel as the new secretary pending approval from his employer (approval was officially received in October 2007).


2. A&WMA and the Conference

Session Proposals

The following Principal Area topics were submitted with the accompanying Principal Area Leads (PAL) for the annual conference call for papers:

a. General Session on Odor Measurement, Effects and Management

b. Odor Control Case Studies
PAL: Richard Pope - Malcolm Pirnie

c. Odor Modeling: Compating Results to Odor Threshold Values
PAL: Ray Porter - CH2M Hill

d. Assessment of Odor Nuisance and Related Risks
PAL: Martha O'Brien - Odor Science and Engineering and Sally Mathison - LA County Sanitation Districts

e. PANEL: Highlights of the A&WMA/WEF 2008 Odors and Air Emissions Specialty Conference
PAL: Mike McGinley - St. Croix Sensory, Inc.

Mike McGinley submitted these topics for inclusion in the Annual Conference call for papers.

3. Recent Conferences

AWMA Environmental Nuisance Conference (odor, noise, dust and light) was held in Vancouver, BC in May 2007. This conference was well attended by industry, government and private consultants from throughout the U.S. and Canada.

4. Upcoming Conferences

AWMA Environmental Nuisance Conference
to be held in Toronto, ON in January or February 2008

2008 WEF/AWMA Odor and VOC Specialty Conference
to be held 6-9 April 2008 in Phoenix, AZ.

IWA 3rd International Odour Conference
to be held 8-10 October 2008 in Barcelona Spain

5. Workshop at WEF/AWMA Odor Conference

A&WMA has requested the EE-6 committee to sponsor a workshop at the WEF/AWMA Odor Conference in 2008.

Mike McGinley had spoken with the conference Chairs about potential workshop topics. Odor regulations was a topic discussed that Mike felt should be pursued. The group discussed other possible topics, but the regultions seemed to fit best with the mission of EE-6 and the Environmental Management aspects of A&WMA. Mike McGinley will prepare a workshop proposal to submit to A&WMA and the conference Chairs by mid-November.

6. Odor Sampling - Update Discussion

There was discussion about the subcommittee on odor samling methods. Minimal actions were taken in the past year. Anna Bokowa, Ray Porter and Larry Hottenstein continue to wish to lead this subcommittss on sampling methods. The first step planned by the committee is to seek all information available about different sampling methods.

The meeting adjourned at 1:00 PM.
