3. Upcoming Conferences
2010 WEF/AWMA Odor and Air Pollutants Specialty Conference
Charlotte Convention Center, Charlotte, NC
21-24 March 2010
Mike McGinley distributed the call for papers. Abstracts are due July 3rd. This is only 3 weeks away.
Mike also discussed how A&WMA is seeking more participation in 2010. A&WMA may become more involved with presenting a poster session, but the logisitics would need to be discussed and worked out.
The EE-6 committee will host a workshop on Sunday, March 21st at the conference. The committee discussed topic areas and determined the best topic would be Sampling Methodologies. It is expected that speakers could present information, including hand-on demonstrations of various sampling methods for odorous air samples and also for collection of samples for analysis for chemical compounds, both samples to be submitted to the lab and direct reading instrumentation. Sharon Patterson, NA Water Systems - Veiolia Water, has volunteered to lead the planning for this workshop. Several other members in attendance expressed their interest in assisting (R.Porter, M.McGinley, A.Bokowa, M.O'Brien, B.Bergeron).
IWA 4th International Odour Conference
to be held in Victoria, Brasil in 2011
Information will be posted on the committee web site as it is known.
4. Odor Sampling - Update Discussion
There was further discussion about the subcommittee on odor samling methods. Anna Bokowa reported she has not received any comments on her revisions suggested in 2008: Suggested Revisions by Anna Bokowa (June 2008)
Ray Porter continued to express his interest in assisting on subcommittee. He suggested the workshop at the 2010 conference could serve as a springboard to preparing the document based on the information presented.
5. Other business
Interlaboratory Testing
Mike McGinley discussed how OlfaTech in germany has organized world-wide interlaboratory tests in 2003, 2005, 2007, and most recently in 2009. There is interest in organizing a separate interlaboratory program for North America. Mike has started contacting gas suppliers about possible options for standard gases for the testing as well as logistics and cost of sending samples to multiple labs. Mike expects there would be at least 12 laboratories in North America that would be interested in participating. Mike will continue to bring together information to discuss further at a later time.
.
The meeting adjourned at 1:00 PM.
Respectfully Submitted,
Michael McGinley
