2011 MEETING MINUTES

21 June 2011
11:40PM - 1:00PM
Coronado Springs Resort
Orlando, Florida

The meeting opened at approximately 12:00 pm.

Anna Bokowa (Chair) and Steven Trabue (Secretary) were present at the meeting.  David Restaino (Vice-Chair) was unable to attend the meeting.
Anna Bokowa opened the meeting with a brief statement on the recent Committee elections and read a statement by Kamlech Patel resigning his position as Vice-Chair.

Introductions:
A sign-in sheet was passed around and those in attendance introduced themselves to the group.

A&WMA Technical Council Reorganization
John Koehler spoke on a proposal to reorganize the Tech Council.  John spoke briefly on the reorganization and highlighted that the reorganization would consolidate the Tech Council into three main areas: 1) Industry Focus; 2) Environmental Management; and 3) Basic Sciences.  John admitted that the proposal would minimally impact the EE-6 committee.

Sample Bag Availability Update
Ray Porter started a discussion on what are the options once Tedlar® bags are no longer available.  Mike McGinley spoke about his experiences trying to find alternative sampling material.  Mike said that Nalophan may have issues with sample integrity during shipment (more testing needed) and he was disappointed with SKC, Inc. replacement for Tedlar® bags acknowledging its many shortfalls including the strong off odors associated with it.  Mike was unsure if a mitigation strategy could be developed for these bags.  Flexfilm bags were acknowledged to have potential permeability issues.   Mike acknowledged that Tedlar® bags availability shortage was becoming a reality.  Many in the group wanted to explore sample bag technology and also wanted to develop standards to use to measure the effectiveness of each sampling container material.

A&WMA and the Conference
Session Proposals

The following Principal Area topics were proposed for the annual conference call for papers
a. Odor Measurement and Dispersion Modeling- platform- Chair - Anna Bokowa
b. Odor Control Technology- platform- Chair-  Ray Porter
c. Sample Bag Technology-panel - Chair- Mike  Mc Ginley

Draft of sampling methodology protocol
Anna gave a brief update and status report on the current draft of the odor sampling protocol.  This was followed by a general discussion on the need for a developed protocol for field sampling since the general guidelines currently out there are infrequently followed.  There was a general consensus that the field sampling protocol needed to have metrics attached to them similar to laboratory analysis protocol.

Miscellaneous Committee Discussion

Anna and Mike spoke with John Kohler and raised the issue that it was difficult to find EE-6 on A&WMA website and John readily admitted it was a major issue with A&WMA website.

Anna and Mike also both lead a discussion on the membership and the need to clean-up the membership roster.
